Species lily L. pumilum
Species lily L. pumilum

Red lily sometimes known as l. tenuifolium. As they are grown from self pollinated seed, flowers can be orangy-red, red, or yellow-orange, but are always waxy, small, numerous and fragrant. Short-lived if allowed to go to seed, but easily self sows or start them new from seed - it will produce copious amounts for you! Originated in eastern Asia, l. pumilum is very hardy, and grows to 60 cm tall, blooming early on fine-foliaged stems. Ideal for sunny or semi-shaded rock gardens, but plant at least 10 cm deep as it tends to push itself up close to the surface!
