US customers are subject to an extra $15.00 charge in shipping for a phyto certificate which indicates the bulbs are pest free. This charge is mandatory and INCLUDED in the shipping price when we quote your shipping costs, whether online or otherwise. This certificate is required by your government in order to import bulbs.
Perhaps you can get together with a friend or family member and order together to save on shipping costs?
During the busy fall season, all USA orders ship the first shipping week in September or alternatively the first week of October. If your order contains Orienpets, it will likely be the October shipping week it will go out. Remember, we ship in the Fall season ONLY.
We do not require a minimum order, but it is to your benefit to order in quantity as the shipping is the same regardless of quantity, for smaller orders.
Sometimes the shipping calculations are completely off for various reasons, and the charges may seem very high - we refund any difference over $5.00 at shipping time. AT SHIPPING TIME, because we don't know the weight or exact cost until then.
It is difficult to calculate shipping charges due to the size and weight of the bulbs, which vary greatly individually, as well as from season to season. We do not make a profit from shipping, in fact we have no handling charge nor do we charge extra for packaging such as boxes or vermiculite. Vermiculite or Peat Moss is what the bulbs are packed in, although it is dusty it is much easier for officials to see the quality and state of the bulbs and we feel this helps get them through customs and inspections a little bit quicker. You can dump either onto the ground after planting and mix it into your topsoil, so it serves a double purpose and it is sterile.
Shipping to the USA is via Air Mail (Tracked Packet), Expedited Post USA or Xpresspost USA through the Canadian Postal Service.
Expedited service usually delivers to any location in the US within 14 days, all orders shipped this method have tracking numbers which are emailed to you along with an expected delivery date the day your order goes out.
Shipping minimum rate to USA is $25.00 plus mandatory phyto (so minimum total incl. phyto $40.00) for USA Expedited or Airmail. Please note we refund any difference of $5 or more if actual cost is less than you paid for shipping.
Air Mail can take a couple days longer but still comes with tracking; only small orders can be sent this method as there is a weight restriction in addition to package dimensions. Insurance value to $100.00 is included with all orders shipped regardless of their method.
XpressPost USA is also available at additional cost to the above rate, exact charges are not known until the order is packed. XpressPost delivers to any location in the US, usually within 4-7 days. Using this method seems to prevent customs delays. This method also comes with tracking numbers and is automatically insured to a value of $100.00. Your tracking number is emailed to you the day the order ships out, along with the expected delivery time. But OMG the cost!
Courier delivery is available but only on request. In 2020 I have access to discounted courier shipping for packages to the USA so AT SHIPPING TIME, I can do quick checks and compare to postal rates - if you are interested in saving on shipping be sure to let me know! Costs cannot be calculated until the order is packed & ready to ship. In any case, you must pay all costs before the order is shipped to you.
Unfortunately we get a far better rate with Courier delivery to the US than we do in Canada, it is often the same or less cost to have an order shipped via Courier than Canada Post from here to there - but only because it is a discounted rate!
My only concern using Couriers is their penchant to charge you brokerage fees for 'handling' your order going through customs - as far as I know neither CP or USPS charges for this. If you decide to use Courier Delivery please investigate this further so you are not surprised with any extra fees when they deliver to you.
The purchaser is responsible for any and all additional fees, duties, taxes, associated with orders shipped outside of Canada. It is customer responsibility to be aware of the customs and/or documentation needed plus any other fees or processes which may apply to importing lily bulbs into their own country. We cannot, nor do we make any claims of knowledge of regulations in any country other than Canada. I can safely say there is no duty or tax on bulbs from Canada to the US for any consumer, due to existing Free Trade Agreements. We do not issue refunds for orders returned due to refusal to pay additional fees, taxes or duties in the destination country should they be applicable.
We have a strict policy against misrepresenting the value and/or contents of your order on international customs forms. To misrepresent your order on customs forms would put us at risk legally. Any requests to do so will be ignored.
